It was a great day for a silhouette match. High 70s and sunny all day. The wind picked up near the end, but it wasn’t too much of a factor unless you were like me and decided to shoot standing at the end of the day.

We had 26 shooters turn in a total of 62 cards. It got to the point where we had to put out the sign-up boards in the morning. There were a number of good scores shot as well, with a total of 5 match legs scored between FP and SB.

We had two “old regulars” come back and one gentleman who hadn’t shot silhouettes in 27 years!

All in all, it was a great shoot and it looks like Regionals will be a fun and challenging time.

As for my shooting, it was the Charger’s first match so it was the first one out of the case. I got a couple of comments on it, but since we were just getting going, not many people were there yet. I checked my scope settings on the sighters and settled in to shoot for score. I will say one thing about shooting an auto, it is hard to slow yourself down. There were at least two banks of targets where I was done shooting and had the mag reloaded before the 1 minute call was made. But, I was in the zone, so I didn’t want to jinx myself by changing anything in the middle. I did take my time on the last bank of rams and when the last one fell, I let out a big sigh of relief. My first 40X40! :dance3:

Of course while I was shooting, more people trickled in, so when I was done, I got to answer quite a few questions about the gun.

After a brief rest, I took up the Charger again to try US. I hadn’t shot this gun standing at all, but I figured the sight settings would be close, and they were. It is a pretty easy gun to shoot, but with the aluminum barrel, it balances towards the rear, which makes it hard to hold steady. I did manage to shoot a 25 with it, so I am sure that with a little more practice I can improve on that.

After putting the Charger away, I took a break and did some spotting. Once that was done, I pulled out the TC for a little Unlimited shooting. I am in the process of starting a new sight settings book, so I pulled out my old book to transfer the last settings I had to the new book. Unfortunately, I got in a hurry and copied the wrong settings. I had two sheets for this barrel, one with the factory sights and one with the short-rib that is currently on it. So, I shot all five of my sighters at the chicken and failed to hit it. I didn’t know what was going on. I managed to hit the first 5, but all the shots were in the feet. On the second bank, I got 5 and then whiffed on the last 3. Pigs were even worse. I only managed to hit 3. By this time I was completely confused. :confused2: I figured it was the ammo. I was shooting Aguila Match Pistol ammo that, historically, this barrel shoots very well. But it is Mexican, so I figured it was a bad box. I pulled out another box on the second bank of pigs and only hit one. So, maybe that wasn’t the problem. One of the guys tossed me a box of Wolf Match Target to try on turkeys, but the lunch bell was rung, so we went to eat. When I got back to the line, I pulled out my old sight-settings book to see if I copied wrong and it was at that time that I realized what I had done. :frusty: So, I put the correct turkey sight setting in and managed to somewhat redeem myself on turkeys and pigs, hitting 14 of the 20 for a final score of 24. I did find out that my barrel shoots the Wolf ammo pretty well, so I am going to pick up a couple of bricks of it to shoot for the rest of the year.

With my Small Bore shooting done for the day, I pulled out the TC Hornet and stepped up to the Field Pistol line. Last month I was able to shoot into the 60 Club with an aggregate score of 60 (29 and 31), so my goal for the rest of the year with my FP rig is to get into INT class for both disciplines. The FP-P shooting went great and I was able to post my best yet score of 31. I put the scope on and went to work again. By this time it was getting later in the day and the wind was picking up. Not too much of a problem except when I got out to the Rams. They were really moving around out there. I had a solid 27 going into them and I usually do pretty well on them, but this time I left 4 standing for a total score of 33. But, I got my match leg in FP-P and posted my best FP agg. score of 64, so I am not going to complain at all. :clap2:

Like I said before, it was a great day for shooting! :usa2:

Very nice shooting Mike. Of course, all it took was using Eley ammo.

Great job Mike!! I wish I could have witnessed it!

Yeah we missed you Chris. Dave and I had the Chargers running back to back. He missed #2 Turkey on the first bank of turkeys, so we couldn't post B-T-B 40s.
