Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between Ihmsa and NRA Pistol Silhouette? Thanks-

The NRA and IHMSA and completely separate organizations, though most (if not all) IHMSA members are also NRA members. The NRA has dozens of different types of competition including a limited pistol based silhouette shoot - with far fewer categories than IHMSA. Their chicken line is also at 40 yards. The only matches I have ever seen are what they call Hunter Pistol, similar in rules to IHMSA Field Pistol. IHMSA is dedicated to a single thing - pistol based silhouette matches. A shooter can participate in either, but they are in no way related so scores do not carry over from one to the other. There are also some rules to watch if you intend to purchase a firearm to shoot both as not all IHMSA pistols are NRA legal. I am sure someone that has shot NRA will chime in...as an NRA instructor I suppose I should know a little more about it, huh? Sad...

If I'm not mistaken, NRA allows 12" barrels and IHMSA does not.

In Hunter Pistol a 12" barrel is allowed. In IHMSA you could not shoot a 12" barrel in Field Pistol, but you could as an unlimited gun in Big Bore.

I believe that the NRA also has some weight differences in Production (4.5lbs vs 4.0 for IHMSA) and I heard that they just increased their unlimited weights to 8.0lbs to eliminate constantly raising it to allow new guns on the market that dont make weight (ie savage strikers etc) Guess they figure if you want to hold a 8 lb gun up for 40-80 rounds be my guest. I dont believe they have any UAS or UHSAS (freestyle scoped) catagories. The chickens are at 40 yards in Field pistol for the NRA. The NRA also has a Smallbore version of Hunters Pistol. I have not duel sanctioned IHMSA and NRA for a couple of years so I do not have a current rule book. The unlimited weight thing is something I heard from another person.
