I would think that for Field Pistol use the 9mm will take the rams with no problems...........if you can hit them. Which really should not be an issue.
I tried the 357Mag with light loads for a while but have now settled on the 22 Hornet for both categories of Field Pistol.

I also shoot .22 Hornet for both (and have on occasion had ringers). The 9mm is a heavier and slower round - my question is not so much will it take them (I believe it will without much difficulty) but more what is required to get them there. I have never seen a T/C chambered in 9mm, but I am not thinking my Glock 19 wouldnt stand a chance. :doh: Something more accurate with better sights may be fun. It certainly would have very little kick.

Have you shot any groups from the T/C at 100 yards to see what you are getting?

That looks like about an 8" barrel on that shorty Contender. Should get plenty of velocity for rams and with a scope hittting them should not be an issue....if it groups well.

A 9mm will have plenty of power for rams as long as you can hit them. I personally use a 22 hornet and a 270 REN for my FP entries. My REN is scoped, my hornet is a full length rib set up for taco hold. I also have a KL clamp on high mid rise so I can also shoot it for PAS. This way I can shoot it for both if I choose.

I use a scoped 22 Hornet for PAS and a 32 H&R Mag, pushing a 100 Hornady XTP, for production. I've had a very few ringers with the Hornet -- but there's never a question with the 32. If I hit it -- it goes down. The 9mm sounds interesting............. please keep us posted on how well it works.

The 9mm should be fine for Field Pistol. I can take down every ram at 100 yards with a .38 Special 148 grain wadcutter...as long as I hit them. I have used a 10mm TC barrel with 165 grain bullets on FP targets. It hammers the rams, and those were mid-range loads.

It's not a straight wall, but 25-20. It's a great cartridge. When I feel like just messing around I drag out my 6 inch S&W .41 magnum with cast bullets.

Steve, I was wondering when you were going to chime in on your 25-20. That is a good one also :agree:. Hmmmmmm, I dont have one of those yet............ Hmmmmmmm. Lets see, 22 hornet, 270REN, 32-20....................25-20. Just might be in the cards some day if one comes along at the right price. Wonder what cast bullets they make for it. Or maybe a set of swaging dies............ GREAT STEVE.......... now you got me thinking about spending money again.

I tried my shorty 9mm two weeks ago at PSC, Texas match. Rams are no problem when I hit em. I even tried (just messin around) on big bore pigs and they went down just fine. Red dot sight will take a while to get used to. The 9mm has very little recoil with factory loads. I might have to try reloading for it.

I do need to remember to turn off red dot when done shooting or buy extra batteries

Yep, red dot came off and put a Burris 3x9 rifle scope on.

I have been using a 30-20 for several years now. I have been running CB's in it for the last 5-6 years. I have found it to be about as universal of a case and caliber for IHMSA as there ever was. I use my BF for FP PAS and BB US. My TC is used for FP P, BB P and BB S. My FP loads are very mild and recoil not much more than any hornet load I found with comparable accuracy. My only gripe is the TC factory barrel could shoot better and may get taken care of sooner or later. Throat issues with it, which is normal for the most part.
I tried a red dot years back and the one i had at the time, I found not to be able to repeat on elevation, which is one thing the Hornet has going for it as a flatter shooter than the 30-20. Though rung targets don't count.
I had tried the 357 mag in years past, but found the best accuracy at or above a top load. I still play with this one for a BB P gun at times.
For FP I never found much in the way of a good, mild recoiling load that would shoot well in this particular barrel.
I myself am all for shooting the same gun in several different venues. Rather than trying to master one fore each.
