I been thinking about putting a field pistol together. The problem is I can't find a used 22 hornet anywhere. Should I go with a new barrel from T/C or should I go with a custom barrel from Bullberry or MGM? And is a custom barrel legel?

Vote for MGM.

Thats who I was leaning towards but wasn't sure if i was legal. What twist should I get?
On a Contender after market barrels are in fact legal for all Production classes. I use a 10.75" .22 Hornet Bull barrel from MGM. This is the maximum length allowed. My barrel is a 1:8 twist. If you order from MGM make sure you tell Shelsie all the details - including drilling and tapping for front and rear sights. Do not take anything for granted. They have a 6-hole base that they make that is of excellent quality as well. From time to time they also run a sale on their "scraps" - left over barrel blank sections from previous orders. These usually are available from 10-12 inches. In the past they have sold these for $200 complete. Even at regular price through, they are a deal. One drawback I have had is that the MGM barrels are generally so tight that they may not lockup on every frame. You may need to send your frame to them along with the barrel, but this would be true of any decent aftermarket barrel maker in my opinion.
