It has been quiet! Personally, I've been resting up after the West Coast Championship. Life is semi-normal again. Small Bore/Field Pistol/Fifth Scale match this Sunday at JCSA in Grants Pass, OR if you're in the neighborhood!

It HAS been quiet ! The board is not nearly as active since the "crash". I know that my silhouette activity has slowed somewhat since my move - but I visit here at least a couple of times a day. I guess that I am part of the problem - have had nothing interesting to talk about or problems to discuss ! But we all owe Doug a debt of gratitude for providing this for us.

You know Phil... I'm only a few hours up the road from you...and about the halfway point for both the Cherokee Gun Club and Little River Gun Club matches...
My wife might kill me, but I'm sure we can find room for ya if you want to shoot... A 2 1/2 hour drive sure beats a 4-5 hour one any day of the week.
Chris
P.S. Doug, thanks again!
Thanks Chris !! We need to get together sometime. My problem has been finding a place to practice. I am going to the match in Pensacola FL. this morning - a 200 mile drive !
The silence is my fault. I run my mouth like a bloomin idiot on Specialty Pistols and here among friends I lurk......go figure. I will do better in the future. Doug has done a great job and I cannot imagine what personal time and energy he has expended getting this site going again, we owe him many thanks.

Phil,
I don't know how knowledgeable you are of GA's outdoor recreation program (DNR-type stuff), but IMHO it is second to none. I have lived in 8 states and have shot in more. I know in the several GA state run shooting ranges I have shot at, they are excellent. The guy who handles the upkeep for the one about 45 minutes from me is awesome. I have offered assistance cleaning the range up several times, but he has refused help every time.
There is a public shooting range near you at the Mayhaw WMA. http://www.n-georgia.com/pdf/mayhaw-wma.pdf It's just north of you near Colquitt.
(Let's see if I can pull this off... LOL) Here's a map from the center of Bainbridge to the range. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...&z=11&dirflg=d
It looks like a 100 yard range. My range in Hawkinsville has two ranges, one 50yd and one 100yd. Now all I need is a 200yd range and I'll be set. I have a friend that says I can use his hunting land, but we never seem to be available at the same time.
Oh yeah... Disclaimer... Like all public ranges, you will find people with varying respect/knowledge of firearms/others. Be careful. It's not that long of a drive to come back another time... I've seen some real winners... Two in particular come to mind...They wanted to see which one of them could empty their pump shotguns (with extender tube) into a can 6ft in front of the firing line, somewhat between them... I started packing the first time they did it, and started running the second time...

Chris, I have been to the range in Colquitt several times. It really is a nice range - 100 yards, and it has a covered concrete firing line. What I really need is a place to shoot 200 meters. I have been able to zero my scope guns in Colquitt, but it is of no use with my open-sighted guns because you cannot shoot steel targets there. Paper works for me with scopes - but is totally useless with open sights (my eyes, I suppose !) This range is not supervised, and I have only had to "share" it with others a couple of times. Once was a fellow with his 2 nephews, shooting BB guns and .22 rifles, and the other time was an older gentleman with some really nice rifles. They were all very pleasant, but I know what you mean about sharing the range with "idiots" - I refuse to do that ! Tell you what - if you can arrainge a place with 200 meters that we could practice on a couple of times a year - I will drive up and bring my targets. I have both .22 AND big-bore sighters !
$6.00 per Big Bore/Half Scale entry
$5.00 per Small Bore/Field Pistol/Fifth Scale entry
$3.00 for the first air gun; $2.00 per gun thereafter.
8 miles from the range - PRICELESS!

Thank you Steve !! -- for reminding me of the futility of my situation ! By the way, can I come live with you ?? I'll bring my gumbo pot !

Crap... I just remembered where you are from Phil... You'll have to show me how to make a real gumbo. I make what is called "Cheater Gumbo" because it's so easy to make...

Steve, You left off Mr Silvas BBQ rib night we had this year (last year pulled pork) AND it is not just fish & BEER banquet as EVERY NIGHT is home brewed beer on tap night. Just don't bring any of that bottled or can beer into my camp. Ask John Zumwalt and Dave Whittman what happens if you do.
