Despite being abandoned by our BB shooting brethren, it was almost the perfect day to shoot. We could all see indications that there were some swirling breezes but just when you thought you had the wind figured out, it would change again.

I got a late start (leaving Perry, GA at 7:30 am for a 9:00 am start in Gainesville does not bode well) and arrived well after the shooting started. There were two shooters on the line and a total of 6 people there (Dave Cote, James Butler, Jim Lunsford, Frank Kent, Herb Dalton, and myself) at 10:00. Since the weather has chilled down to the mid-90s here in middle GA, thought it might be time to warm things up a little. I brought my friend-famous (as apposed to world-famous) gumbo for lunch and got it heating up. I returned to the line and started shooting UAS. I did not shoot my new(ish) classification...(dang #4 Turkey...I hate you...) Don Akridge and Jim Crow showed up just in time for lunch. I must have done something right, everyone really enjoyed the gumbo (or at least told me they did and several asked for the recipe). Even Herb was silent. He was busy eating...hahahaha

We had just resumed shooting when the Mundays completed an 8 hour drive from FL to shoot with us. They were a little bummed they missed lunch with us, but I told them there was a little left. Ed went and grabbed two bowls for he and his lovely bride Alana. After they ate, Alana took to the firing line and something amazing happened...target after target after target fell. For those that don't know Alana, she is like most of us...She likes to sabotage her chances at a 40. Most of us wait until Turkeys or Rams to kill the run off, but Alana likes to remove the pressure early on Chickens or Pigs (most of the time on Chickens...LOL) She just kept mowing them down, until that last Ram fell... You heard that correctly... Alana has a leg into INT... We all knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Congrats again Alana!

Ed just couldn't let that go. He didn't want to hear about it for the next month (or more) how she got her 40 but he didn't... Ed finished the day with a 40, but let me caveat that...it was a 40X42... Yep... He shot a 38 (if I recall correctly). I know he knocked down a Turkey (#4 imagine that...) and a Ram to clean the rails as the last shooter of the day. I have to give Ed some credit though, I don't know if I could have shot any better with my wife squealing on the phone to her uncle that she shot her first 40 either... LOL

All in all, it was a great day to gather with friends and knock down some steel. I'm looking forward to next month as the lost sheep return home from the Region 2 BB match. I'm hoping they had as much fun in Lincolnton as we did in Gainesville.

P.S. Alana - I just remembered something...Ron Dixon wasn't around for my first 40 either...I think it's all that pressure he puts on everyone while he's running the match... LOL
