New Security Measures - Performance Hit?

I have added some new security software designed to block people from a number of countries that have attempted to hack the site. The problem is, I believe there is a performance hit. Are you guys seeing the site being slower?

OK...that was TOO painful. Slowed things down far too much. Time to find a Plan B. In the mean time, just so that people can see what web site owners need to deal with, here is a breakdown of TODAY's visitors:

Geez, who the heck lives in Latvia? That's a lot of freakin' hits on this site in just one day!
I missed the slowdown...but today, the forum wouldn't let me budge anywhere until I went into my profile & put my name in the required spots. Took me a minute to figure out what I really wanted from me.

Well, I killed the security measures I put in place originally to prevent people in other countries from getting it - it made each page take 90 seconds to load. A new program has just been installed on the server itself and once I get the database finished importing I will try a different route that should not be any impact on performance (but unfortunately, not free...)
