Thread: Lets see your Bolt Guns

Default Lets see your Bolt Guns

We have to have at least one thread in this forum. So here it goes.
Ok, Let's see what is in everyone's stable.
At this time, I only have two Bolt Guns. One of them is my totaly stock, as it came from the factory, Savage Stiker chambered in 308. The only thing that I have done to it is add an EGW base and a Bushy 2-6 Trophy scope. I have never had an issue with the trigger. Seems just fine to me (Some previous owner probably took care of it). I was fortunate enough this past year to get my first 40 with this pistol.

The other one is an XP that when I got, it was chambered in 35 Rem. I slapped a McGowen barrel chambered in 7br, on it and was lucky enough to find someone that had an extra HS stock that they did not want. In this pic, I have iron sights on it, but have since taken them off and I am going to put a Bushy Elite 2-6 on it. So , I need to sell the sights and buy the Elite. It shoots great, but, my eyes just can not do it anymore.

Ok, so lets see everyone else's. Come on, don't be shy.

Default 6.5 BR Nesika Switch Sight

The action was built in Washington before they sold to Dakota Arms. Chad Dixon was the primary gunsmith on it. He is now in business for himself and his website is http://www.longriflesinc.com. It shoots sub MOA groups at 200 yards.

The reamer was built by Pacific Tool & Gauge in White City, OR. Jim Harris provided the brass to blueprint it.

Newest one to the the fold is also the biggest one I have ever owned: 338 Lapua Magnum Improved (338 Allen Xpress or 338AX)
Second pic shows the case next to a 30-06. Bullet is the 300 grain SMK.

    Yep in a XP.
Running 300 grain SMK's at around 2700 fps, and the 250 AB's (103 grains of Retumbo) at 2860 fps from the muzzle.
Scope is a 5-20 Huskemaw rifle scope.

Sounds like the PERFECT Big Bore pistol for UAS. Now, with that muzzle break, who's ready to spot for me? By the way...what do 45 rounds of that stuff run these days? Ahhh...screw it, my wrist would give out before I made it to pigs.

As long as your spotter is behind you he will be fine. Recoil is not a big deal at all with this set-up.
I sure hope the steel you are shooting isn't soft.

I reload everything, and I bought everything in bulk so it is hard to say.

I will spot for you anytime, if you want to shoot it

That it is. Right now I am breaking the barrel in, then to load development.

Seriously, what kind of recoil does that thing produce? Even with a good muzzle brake, I would imagine it would be pointed pretty much at the sky, after firing!

Very little recoil. So far it has come back with hardly any flip up. Once I get back from the SHOT Show I will take a video clip of it.

OK, I have a couple bolt guns. I'll start with one of my Exemplars. Stock except for the Bomar/Bond sights on it.

My first ever XP-100, bought from a friend in 1986. Ralph Bond XP-100 in .30DC, which is basically a .30BR Improved. I replaced the factory plastic stock with the McMillan a few years ago. Still shooting the original barrel, which has over 16,000 rounds through it. It is accurate enough to be my dedicated Half-Scale gun even to this day.
