Can anyone recommend a repalcement rear sight to fit an older model Smith 8 3/8" 686 ? I've put a set from Millet on it but have found that I'm not that impressed with their consistency when making adjustments for Field Pistol. Also, I am only assuming that I have an older model due to the fact that it is not drilled and tapped for a scope mount. What other ways are there to tell the age of a Smith?

You could contact Smith & Wesson. The have a link on their sight labeled "Weapon history request" Go to the site map tab. They used to have a Bo-mar set up for the Smith & Wessons, not sure if it fit all or only a silhouette model. Not sure who offered it but now that Bo-mar is kaput the only way you could find one is on the used market. Others may know more as to what they fit.
