Default How to Fix Our Government System?

In my opinion (and that of many others) the only way to do this is to clean house, literally. Anyone who has spent so much as a single day reading constitutional history and law understands that to serve in the House or Senate was not intended to be a career, but a voluntary public service - like joining the Military. Yet they receive medical benefits and fat paychecks for life for only 2 terms of service - not to mention all the perks they receive while there. Today the singular goal of the VAST majority of elected officials is simply to be re-elected. To do so they take money from large donors, to whom they serve (as opposed to the voters that put them there). As a special CNBC show recently pointed out, an incumbent Senator or Representative has over $50 Million/year in taxpayer money they can use to indirectly campaign (like free postage service, air travel, etc.). Special Interest groups pay far greater. Bottom line is that once one of these people are in, it is extremely difficult to get them out. U.S. Citizens are by and large lazy - they vote for who has the biggest and most billboards or for whom the AARP, Hollywood stars or other groups (who rarely have the general public's well being at heart) tell them to vote for.

My own senator, Jim DeMint, did propose a short lived term limit bill. A half hearted try, but a try none the less.

To make any real difference and have any chance at stopping the complete insanity, we need a change. A dramatic one. We need to reinvent politics in this country. I think anyone that actually takes time to go beyond the headlines and talking heads (on both sides of the aisle) and actually read the bills and Executive Orders themselves realizes that the last year has brought things that most of us would simply never have believed could have happened - nor should have under Constitutional law. Here are some places to get started on what needs to be done:

    Bottom Line: Just get involved!
